Means and Methods
Most of my work, as you will notice, is shot in Black and White. For me, viewing a black and white print encourages me to bring more of my own experience to the emotion of the image than when I view a color print. I use traditional 35mm and medium format film and I process and print using traditional silver halide chemistry. The tactile and physical rewards of darkroom work far outweigh the expediency of digital imaging.
My only exception to this is when producing images larger than 16” X 20”. Then the negative is scanned and printed on a wide bed digital printer.
I currently shoot with a fifty five year old Hasselblad 500 C medium format camera whose optical qualities are incredible. I also shoot with a Nikon F100.
I process all of my prints to archival standards using fiber based paper, for years and years of enjoyment.
